Opentrip Turkey – Tour of 7 Congregations in Asia Minor (10 Days 7 Nights)
Shalom Picnic Buddy!
This time the Picnic team wants to invite Picnic Friends to join the Turkish Pilgrimage. Maybe all this time, we know Turkey as a country with a Muslim majority. But did you know that the vocation as “Christian” comes from this area?
The city of Antioch (currently Antakya, Hatay Province, Turkey), was the beginning, where Christ’s disciples were first referred to as Christians (khristianoi, Acts 11:26). The church in this city also became the starting point for the spread of the gospel to the Gentiles (non Jewish), which was carried out by the Apostles Paul and Barnabas (Acts 13: 2).
Some of the apostles and preachers of the early gospel also came from cities that are now part of Turkey, including Tarsus, which was Paul’s hometown (Acts 21:39), as well as Timothy’s hometown of Lystra (Acts 16: 1). Likewise, the seven churches in Asia Minor which became the addresses of the Book of Revelation, namely Ephesus, Smyrna (Izmir), Pergamum (Pergamon), Thyatira (Akhisar), Sardis (Sardes), Philadelphia (Alasehir) and Laodicea (Laodicea) (Revelation 11: 1 ) which we will visit on this trip.

LIFE INFORMATION ON THE LIFE OF THE MOTHER MARY AND THE APOSTLE JOHN AFTER THE LORD JESUS RIDE TO HEAVEN
The Apostle John was the youngest of the twelve apostles of Jesus. She was a witness during the crucifixion and she promised Jesus to keep Mary alive after Jesus left. After Jesus ascended to Heaven, John and Mary left Jerusalem and they came to Ephesus in AD 43-44 to spread the gospel. At that time, Mary was old and Ephesus was not safe to live. Therefore the Apostle John and his disciples made a house for him on the top of the hill of Nightingale which is about 7 miles away from Ephesus and 300 meters above sea level as the residence of Our Lady, Maria Magdelana and two other sisters. The Apostle John visited from time to time. Several years later, the Apostle John was sent as a prisoner to the island of Patmos in the middle of the Aegean by the Roman emperor Domitian. While John the evangelist was living in the cave, one day he suddenly heard a voice coming behind him like thunder. The voice said, “I am alpha and omega. Write what you have seen on the scroll and send it to Ephesus, Smryna, Pergamon, Sardis, Thyatira, Philadelphia and Laodecia. “He is the first and the last so He is God. Then John wrote the Book of Revelation. When he was released after the emperor Domitian was murdered in Rome, he came to Ephesus and was able to finish his book in this city. The Apostle John also heard that the Apostle Paul was martyred in Rome so that he became the chief follower of Jesus and he taught how people were baptized. He visited seven churches of Revelation and gave them the letters as a reminder of the Lord.
In one speculation, the Apostle John died at the age of 127 at the end of the 1st century AD and was buried on the hill of Ayasuluk. Until Christianity was legalized by Konstantin the Great in 330 AD, his tomb was only known by church elders so that it would not be destroyed and kept secret from generation to generation.
